About Ken Bartley

Ken Bartley is the co-owner of the ArtisAnn Gallery in Belfast. Artists exhibited range from recent graduates, such as Trina Hobson and Ciaran Harper through to established artists, such as Carol Graham and Brian Ballard. He also project manages exhibitions and events offsite.Ken was previously IT Manager at the Arts Council of Northern Ireland. The role of IT Manager covered a range of responsibilities, including staff, project, budget and information management.Prior to joining the Arts Council, Ken was a Research Fellow in Geographical Information Systems within the Department of Economic and Social History at Queen’s University, Belfast. During this period he co-authored an atlas on medieval history through Manchester University Press.Away from visual arts, Ken has been involved in staging an eclectic range of music events from BP Fallon and Shane McGowan at the Menagerie, the Monochrome Set at Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival, and the contemporary electronic musician, Scanner, at the Belfast International Arts Festival.Ken also co-organised the J2Z Festival, which from 2004 to 2008 brought a range of jazz and electronic musicians to Belfast. This included Roy Ayers, Jazzanova, AIM and 4Hero.Ken is currently Chair of the Digital Arts Studios in Belfast

    The owners of the ArtisAnn Gallery are Ann McVeigh and Ken Bartley who have collected, curated, exhibited and sold artworks for over twenty years.The art gallery may be a new venture but is the realisation of a long-held dream that they have been working towards for quite some time. Ann ran the very successful Belfast UnBound dance company for many years, while Ken worked full-time at the Arts Council of Northern Ireland for almost two decades. Their own artworks includes drawings and photographs, and they have been invited to exhibit at the Naughton Gallery at Queen's, the Assembly Rooms, Catalyst Arts, Queen Street Studios, Tate Modern and Tate Britain, the latter two as part of a larger, collaborative work, as well as presenting a solo show at the Frameworks gallery. They have also successfully submitted works to the Royal Ulster Academy's annual show several times.They applied their expertise to curating shows for other artists and organisations at various venues such as the Black Box, The Good Shepherd Conference Centre, the Linen Hall Library and the ArtTank Gallery.Away from visual arts, they also staged an eclectic range of music events, from American jazz artist, Roy Ayers at the Empire, to BP Fallon and Shane McGowan at the Menagerie, the Monochrome Set at Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival, and the contemporary electronic musician, Scanner, at the Belfast International Arts Festival.
