Working within the corporate & wealth credit risk management group managing and leading a team of 18 credit risk adjudicators who's primary role is to review and decision credit applications from the private banking client segment at CIBC. In partnership with private banking along with other functional risk management groups manage credit policy, credit guidelines, operating procedures while also focusing on new initiatives to improve process while helping grow market share. Remarkably I remain based in Winnipeg which for this role works very well as the team is spread between Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto, Montreal & Halifax.

Within the Private Banking client segment manage and lead a national team of Credit Specialists who help provide solutions for the complex credit needs of high net worth clients. Located in Winnipeg but also spend a fair bit of time at the various Private Banking centres spread across Canada where my team was located and for a few years I had a temporary office in downtown Toronto due to the frequency of my travel schedule.

Regional Manager for 10+ Advisor teams spread across the CIBC branch network throughout Southern Manitoba. Mix of business banking, mass affluent and personal banking clients. Main area's covered were Steinbach, Altona, Morden, Winkler, Brandon & Virden.

Began providing credit underwriting and related advice/support to four client portfolios containing SME & Mid-Market commercial credits (mainly diversified & agricultural clients). In time I also took on a portfolio of clients based in Winnipeg directly managing the relationship which was mainly credit and cash management with some personal business (day-to-day banking, mortgages/personal lending & basic investments). Enjoyed a surprising amount of success in the role as it was a challenging time as CIBC had made the decision to de-risk aspects of its operation which impacted the general level of credit appetite at that time.

Within the risk management department review and approve credit applications coming in from the branch network. Mainly personal credits focusing mostly on home loans as GBS was experiencing remarkable growth due to its successful holiday marketing program. Occassionally would assist in the preparation of presentation memos for the board when the loan amount required their approval. I also was part of a few breakout groups that were looking at various process improvements.

Focusing on developing external referral network for home loan opportunities within the Newcastle / Lake Macquarie region of NSW. Mainly developing network through real estate agents, lawyers, accountants and independent financial planning firms. I also covered a few branches and received internal referrals - my main office was located at The Junction but also had sub-offices at Toronto & Morrisette. I ended up transitioning to GBS as they were able to offer a more flexible work arrangement with the birth of my first daughter which was an important consideration at the time.

Mainly responsible for loan / mortgage applications from members while also opening accounts and providing teller services within a small branch environment (usually 2-3 staff per branch). Great introduction to the fundamentals of lending as the head of credit was very willing to share with me his knowledge and experience helping level set my thought process around credit which I carry with me to this day. I briefly moonlighted on an adhoc basis in the collections department as a good work friend ran the department and would occasionally ask me to help when capacity was a problem.
