SouthStar Health Group (formerly Resurgence Health Group) owns and manages community hospitals and physician practices in the rural Southeast. The company also provides consulting in selected niche areas such as hospital operations, practice management, revenue cycle, etc. I had senior responsibility for multi-site hospital operations, practice management, physician and provider recruitment, corporate human resources, business office/revenue cycle management and new service development.-Served for 2 years as CEO of 100-bed, 55-physician, 200 employee, $65 million Texas community hospital. Successful operational and financial turnaround through recruitment of 7 additional physicians to medical staff, reduction of labor expense by 20% without workforce reduction, renegotiation of clinical and information system contracts with annual savings of over $600000,implemented extensive service development and technology improvement initiatives, and achieved JCAHO reaccreditation with improved core measure and patient safety outcomes. Positioned hospital for sale to Dallas-based health system.-Served for over a year as CEO of 25 bed, 20 physician, 125 employee, $25 million Georgia critical access hospital. Successful positioning of hospital for sale to Savannah-based provider through recruitment of 3 additional physicians and midlevel providers, labor expense reduction of over $300000, increased admit rate and decreased transfer rate from hospital's Emergency Department, upgraded radiology and cardiology diagnostics, and completed significant facility improvements.-Served for 2 years as multi-site operations executive/corporate human resources director recruiting over 10 full time and part time physicians to rural hospital settings, implementing EMRs in physician practices, improving revenue cycle processes in all system hospitals and health clinics (resulting in 300% increase in upfront collections and 25% reduction in claims denial rate).

Senior leadership for all inpatient, outpatient and emergency services in this 280 bed, $180 million Joint Commission accredited community hospital organization. Also led organizational planning, marketing, physician recruitment, practice management and development/fund raising functions. Senior management of 550 FTEs, $35 million expense and $6 million capital annual budgets.-Achieved top quartile ranking in Press Ganey patient satisfaction outcomes-Achieved top quartile ranking in Premier Outlook productivity outcomes-Recruited over 50 physicians thereby doubling the size of hospital Medical Staff-Developed new clinical services including throracic and vascular surgery, stereotactic breast biopsy, wound care center, pulmonary rehab, sleep lab, outpatient psych services, domestic violence and forensic nurse programs, diabetes treatment center, and comprehensive community health and wellness programming.-Directed $10 million renovation to 37000 visit Emergency Deparment including development of Express Care Center.-Secured grant funding for clinical service development in excess of $3 million.

SunHealth was an Alliance of 300 not-for-profit hospitals located in fifteen Southern states. Responsible for the development, operations, financial management and marketing of Management Consultant, Group Purchasing and Physician Recruitment services to hospital-affiliated physician practices. Also Lead Consultant on new business development team which implemented group insurance programs and strategic planning/managed care consulting services. Served as Corporate Resident 1986-87.
