The Applied Math Group directly serves the needs of our parent companies NextEra Energy, Inc. and Florida Power and Light, as well as internal initiatives of WindLogics.Key deliverables have included: * Prediction of wind turbine anomalies for the nation's largest provider of wind energy (NextEra) * Prediction of customer billing defaults using past billing behavior (FPL) * Prediction of large-scale outages in power utility distribution systems (FPL) * Detection of long-term drift and anomalous behavior in wind turbines' power output and their on-board anemometers * Collaboration on optimal dispatch models for battery systems to reduce customer peak billingKey technical achievements have included: * Pioneered graph database model for troubleshooting & navigating power distribution system (Neo4J) * Pioneered document datastore for computation & front-end of Generation Entitlement system (MongoDB) * Pioneered & sustained efforts to transition organization to a modern revision control system (Git) * Early development of distributed systems for big-data applications (Hadoop, Spark) * Led efforts to improve the software quality of the Applied Math Group using R package best practices, branch management, formal releases, and Atlassian Bamboo for automated testing. * Improved mechanisms for tight collaboration between R code and Java code through JNI (JavaR)

I worked in the fields of machine learning, statistical inference, information retrieval, text mining, finite state automata and sequence alignment, and maintain interests in dynamic languages and research methodology. I was instrumental in the development of WestlawNext and continued to work on enhancements to its functionality.

I co-founded the "Ask Dr. Math" project, a free service for students around the world. The project created a large archive of in-depth questions & answers on math topics from elementary through college levels. I also created the CGI-based infrastructure for managing queues of questions and answers and designed the public-facing web site.
