Industrial equipment wears a gateway that collects sensor data and the company partners with Dell, IBM, Intel and SAP to provide cloud and analytics platforms.I took on this project with the goal of commercializing an existing product developed in Australia into the Industrial Internet of Things (IoT) market. We formed a new company and built it into an IoT player capable of scaling worldwide through IBM’s Application Specific Licensing. IBM recognized Smart Connect as a Business Partner of the Future and the company was one of two finalists for IBM's Beacon Award in the Outstanding Analytics Cloud Solution Category. -
Vice President FinanceSynergex International & Cleanworld 2013 - 2014Gold River, Ca, UsSynergex is a fifty-year-old application development company with a venture capital arm that holds a majority stake in CleanWorld, a bioenergy manufacturer that converts organic waste into transportation fuel and electricity. My first project was leading a six month catch up effort for the finance organization. The team fell behind as complexity ramped up with the creation of Synergex Ventures and several other entities that make up CleanWorld. My main focus became supporting CleanWorld's growth which required engaging California public agency and private lending partners to ensure grant, debt and tax exclusion funding. -

Vice President OperationsCommendo Software 2002 - 2008Commendo marketed software applications for Mobile Internet Devices that allowed Facebook and YouTube users to capture, store and share content on and offline. The company envisioned rich media and video experiences prior to Apple's release of the iPhone. We partnered with Intel when the company was focused on penetrating the mobile market with the Atom processor, an effort that was underpinned by a relationship I established with Atom's Chief Evangelist. My big focus with this project was ensuring the company could endure the post internet bubble period with a $2M capital raise, while landing on a solid business model after Salesforce introduced Software as a Service. I negotiated our reference customer contract with Cemex, the third largest building materials company in the world, after leading beta projects and conducting business across Mexico and at their headquarters in Monterrey. We hit our stride, highlighted by international showcases at the Shanghai Intel Developer Forum and Mobile World Congress in Barcelona as well as winning the Best of Show Award from Intel at the Consumer Electronics Show, but ran into the Great Recession and were unable to complete the commercialization process. -

DirectorScient 1998 - 1999Once Wall Street's eBusiness consulting darling and through a series of acquisitions was folded into Razorfish. I joined with the "first 100" as employee 82 and fueled the development of a global technology organization with anchor offices in San Francisco and New York and international offices in London, Munich and Singapore. The firm was backed by Benchmark and Sequoia and reached a $6B valuation after its IPO. Day traders got a hold of the stock and despite diversifying its client base Scient got caught in the internet bubble. My focus was eBay, another Benchmark funded company. Meg Whitman was the CEO and the company was experiencing explosive growth with plans to go international. I was brought in to turn around an infrastructure project and was invited back to lead a second project that resulted in the development of eBay's worldwide network strategy. Our success led to Meg Whitman's endorsement for Scient's IPO.

Senior Product Manager | Senior Program Manager | Senior Project ManagerAt&T (Formerly Pacific Bell) 1995 - 1998To this day joining Pacific Bell's Internet Service Provider subsidiary, now AT&T, is one of the most rewarding experiences of my career. I joined as employee 20 and over the course of three years played several key roles in the company's market entry. This is where I found my love for company building. My primary focus became doing whatever it took to get high quality products and services to the market. The VP of Service Delivery, my first mentor, used to say, "we give Ken our problems and he gets them fixed." I rolled out internet access for Mac users, turned around a Personal Web Pages product, delivered Flat Rate Pricing and was recruited by the CFO to close the internet subsidiary merger.
-
Financial Analysis And Planning Manager | Capital Investment ManagerAt&T (Formerly Pacific Bell) 1993 - 1995Pacific Bell was the most aggressive RBOC and spun off its Information Services division into a separate subsidiary. Business and residential voicemail were the company's main products and within a year it branched into commercializing the internet as an "Information Superhighway."I started in a contract position that converted into employment and before I knew it I was managing a $30M capital investment program and a $100M asset base. I put on my financial analyst hat and owned reporting for the division GM when Pacific Bell entered the TELE-TV joint venture with Bell Atlantic and Creative Artists to acquire TV programming and content.
