As a team member at Tractor Supply Company, I was responsible for interacting with customers, encouraging sales through customer interaction, and helping with tasks assigned by managers such as putting out new merchandise. My main responsibility was working the cash register. I was responsible for greeting customers and uncovering their needs when they first walked into the store. I would direct them to the correct part of the store or direct them to another coworker for more help. After finding the items they would like to purchase, I would ring up their purchases. While working as a cashier, I learned how to run credit cards, run checks, sign customers up for credit cards and the store loyalty program, sell our power plus replacement plan, and ensure the front of the store stayed neat and tidy. I would also help stock shelves during our freight days when a truck full of merchandise would come in and then help to refresh and reset the inventory to make it appealing to customers.

As a to-go host on the to-go team, I was responsible for to-go orders and customer satisfaction. I was trained in four different areas: phones, board, runner, and packer. The phone position consisted of answering phone calls for orders over the phone, putting people on the wait list for a table at the restaurant, and taking messages for the managers. The board position consisted of answering the walk-up window, taking walk-up orders, taking payments from customers, and marking off orders in the computer when they had been picked up. The runner position was responsible for double-checking the to-go orders before handing them to customers, adding bread rolls to each bag, and running back and forth from the kitchen for more bread and anything missing from the order. Even though I was only at this job for a short time, I learned about customer satisfaction, time management in a very busy environment, responsibility, and how to multitask. I also had the opportunity to help train multiple incoming to-go hosts the last two weeks I was there.

As a Patriot Mentor, I was a resource for incoming (undergraduate) freshmen every fall and spring. I attended their University Life class with them and they could come to me for advice and expertise about campus life. When I was in class, I helped the professor answer questions the students asked and would give a student’s perspective on the topics discussed in class. One professor gave me the opportunity to teach a class about resources available to students on campus. I would also hold "office hours" in the coffee shop on campus which allowed the students to come to me for advice outside of class time if needed. I also helped with events during the first week of classes such as directing students to their classes and giving tours around campus.

During this internship, I was able to shadow four different veterinarians at a companion animal veterinary clinic. I was able to watch all of them do various types of surgeries and go into the exam rooms with them. I helped to maintain surgical equipment and prepare for surgeries. I also restrained animals while the veterinarians examined them.
