I Kendra Fields started getting serious about my life in 2010 when my brother was put in a nursing home in Eufalua Alabama called Crowne Healthcare. I decided to take up CNA classes to learn how to care for my older brother because he wanted to be home with family. I decided I would take on the responsibility. I signed up through Extindicare Health and rehabilitation and they sent me to Wallace to take the classes to get certified. Before I could get completely certified my brother passed away. I started to walk away but I knew my brother would want me to help others so I stuck it out. This started me on my journey of wanting to care for others. I worked for Spectracare for 5 years running a 16 bed facility. I conducted daily group with my consumers, taught them basic living skills, cooked, assisted my consumers with whatever they needed, took them on outings, documented on my residents, wrote 4 hours of basic living skills up conducted for billing, and was Mac certified to pass medications to consumers. I eventually left due to the hours and me signing up for school online through the University of Phoenix to receive my Bachelor Degree in Health Administration. I went to school and worked front desk and filled in as a medical assistant with Alabama Psychiatry. I did a little of everything from verifying insurance, scheduling follow up appointments for my providers, filled in medical records when they were short and filled in front desk for other offices along with my office. I started working in Graceville at Twin Oaks Juvenile Development Harriet’s Haven while I finished my degree. This job is where I will be until I can fully utilize my degree. I love working with the youth here at Harriet’s Haven. Believe it or not I use to be one of the youth that we care for and share some of the same background as my youth. I want my girls to see that their past doesn’t determine their future. They are in charge of their FUTURE. This is the company I want longevity with as the work we do here is near and dear to my heart.
