I reviewed and critiqued resumes in one-on-one sessions for BUSPH students to advance their competitiveness within the job market. I also proofread and tailored cover letters to enhance reader engagement. Overall, I provided appropriate career counseling and resources to meet individual needs.

I extensively researched the vector control strategies and polices used by Brazil to contain Aedes aegypti and its associated mosquito-borne illnesses in order to better understand the country's successes and failures in containing the vector. Based on my research I developed short and long-term recommendations that Brazil should consider in the wake of the Zika virus and its continued outbreaks of dengue and yellow fever. My proposed short-term solutions include expanding community mobilization initiatives and surveillance tactics, as well as the long-term solution of improving infrastructure in urban areas such as favelas. In my conclusion I expand on how these sustainable solutions would improve the health of the local communities affected by the negative health outcomes of infectious diseases.

I supported faculty’s development and facilitation of session plans that are designed to provide real-life opportunities to foster knowledge and understanding of consulting with global organizations. I utilized past experiences to mentor new students on how to solve problems to their own means and improve their consultation skills.

I collaborated on the development of a dashboard based on the data collected from the "Quezalguaque, Nicaragua Nutrition Survey for Children under 6 Years of Age" to provide insight on health and socio-economic status aspects of survey participants. The dashboard includes a table of descriptive information, a histogram, a chart displaying the normal distribution of weight for age, and additional bar charts and tables. The data and information included in the tables was calculated and added using COUNTIFS, AVERAGE, SUM, IF, and conditionally formatting functions. The bar charts were developed using pivot tables and pivot charts. The dashboard also includes a "toggle" function that switches the language from English to Spanish.

Worked in partnership with two MPH students in the "Supply Chain Management for Improved Health Systems Performance" course and a country contact from John Snow, Inc. to understand the operations and management of Zimbabwe’s Delivery Team Topping Up (DTTU) supply chain system and identify a key challenge and a plausible solution. We examined DTTU’s flow of commodities, flow of information, logistics management information system, inventory control system and human resources to develop a pipeline diagram and identify recurring challenges within the supply chain. We identified the flow of condoms as a major challenge for DTTU’s supply chain and examined recurring problems within the system to understand why shortages are occurring. Finally, we explored policy and procedural solutions to reduce condom shortages and improve efficiency in the flow of condoms.

The aim of my position was to assist the field supervisor and team leads on the development of the 2017-2021 National Surgical, Anesthesia, and Obstetric Plan for Zambia. I compiled healthcare delivery and infrastructure data on Zambia’s surgical care system to develop a Term of Reference for the Healthcare Delivery & Infrastructure working group. I supported team leads in recording the Healthcare Delivery & Infrastructure committee meetings in order to compile information on the current conditions of Zambia’s surgical care system for the policy development process. I also contributed to the team’s development of presentations and speeches addressing the state of the policy document and next steps for the policy development process for the National Surgical and Anesthesia Forum in Lusaka, Zambia.

Lwala Community Alliance runs community-led programs in rural North Kamagambo that focus on education and economic empowerment in order to target social determinants of health. The organization’s mission is to build capacity of the people in North Kamagambo to advance their comprehensive well-being. While enrolled in "Implementing Health Programs in Developing Countries: Making Programs Work", my team consulted on scopes of work for human resource management, quality improvement, health management information systems, essential drug and supply chain management, and financial management to provide LCA with research and deliverables to improve the organization as a whole. I collaborated on the creation of key performance indicators, an annual evaluation template, and recommendations for LCA’s salesforce system to aid in the development of an organized and transparent human resource system. I developed multiple quality improvement tools focused on building capacity of community health workers and community-led programs to provide LCA with the instruments necessary to improve community support of HIV+ community members and reduce stigma. I collectively built a mock-dashboard for data visualization of health indicators to provide LCA with an example of how it can track trends over time using a low-cost, readily available resource to improve health outcomes of its catchment populations. I contributed to the development of a standardized budget template for LCA to better understand its allocation of funds and make comparisons from year-to-year to improve budgeting processes. Also, I maintained an environment that fostered team harmony and utilized individual and team skills to develop a proposal for software implementation in order to reduce barriers and tackle challenges faced by Lwala Community Alliance’s current inventory management system.The written reports and deliverables can be found here: https://bu.digication.com/gh743_harambee

Sharing the Journey is a non-profit organization specializing in care for deaf and hard of hearing children and their families. I facilitated daily in-house activities and fieldtrips for small groups of children between the ages of 4 and 18 that fostered a fun and safe environment for friendship development and opportunities to learn Irish Sign Language (ISL). I coordinated volunteers’ availability and skills with the type of activities and fieldtrips provided for each age group. I also delegated tasks to volunteers based on ISL capabilities in order to provide children with optimal learning opportunities.
