CurrentThe Director of Human Resources and Administration supports MIT’s mission by providing the expertise, leadership and overall management of the fiscal and human resources (HR) functions in the Office of the Vice President for Research (VPR). Coordinates with the Vice President for Research, Assistant Provost for Research Administration, the Senior Director of Research Administration and Compliance, and other leaders and managers to align HR strategies with the mission of the VPR. Key Responsibilities: Provide leadership for all HR activities including performance management, training and development, employee relations, recruitment and retention, diversity and inclusion, compensation, conflict resolution and strategic planning. Act as senior advisor to the Vice President for Research and senior staff and as a liaison to central HR.Ensure the VPR is in compliance with all applicable Institute policies and procedures and federal and state regulations. Stay abreast of programs and initiatives within VPR and across the Institute in order to ensure that HR and information management practices are compliant and support VPR needs and objectives. Serve as a resource and provide guidance and counsel to faculty and mangers on HR matters.Recommend changes in policies and procedures and incorporate HR best practices to improve HR administration and information management and streamline operations. Manage hiring process for units reporting to the VPR and ensure compliance with Affirmative Action requirements. Manage complaint process for HR-related issues within the VPR and more broadly, as appropriate.Lead initiatives to establish best practices in HR and research administration. Provides leadership and direction for MIT-Haystack’s financial operations including financial planning, budget analysis, operational and financial performance metrics, and business and strategic plans. Develop and maintain Haystack’s current and long-range financial plans to reflect its strategic goals and mission. In collaboration with Senior Fiscal Officers, builds the annual allocation budget and operating budgets.Directs Haystack’s sponsored research operation. Develops, implements, and maintains best practices in sponsored research administration. Works closely with the Director, staff, the Office of Sponsored Programs and related institute offices, to negotiate and review complex sponsored research agreements.
