I served as Corporate Director of Safety, Health & Environmental Affairs at Premier Farnell Corporation, a UK based multinational electronics distribution company with operations in North America, South America, Europe, Asia and Australia. I handled Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) and sustainability related issues in the Americas. I helped prepare the company’s annual Corporate Social Responsibility report and assisted in maintaining its e-steward enterprise, FTSE4Good index, Dow Jones Sustainability Index, and BiTC Platinum status.

I served on the Impartiality & Advisory Board of this ISO industrial quality registrar for 18 years. Committee members met semi-annually with Smithers Quality Assessments management to review key company initiatives, processes, issues and customer concerns. I served as a safety (OHSAS 18001) and environmental (ISO 14001) quality system expert. The committee provided third party input and advice to management on how to handle key issues they were facing.

The Alliance of Hazardous Materials Professionals (originally known as the Academy of Certified Hazardous Materials Management) is a membership body representing environmental professionals both inside and outside the United States. I was honored to serve on the organization's Board of Directors (1988-1992), as Secretary-Treasurer (1988-1989), and as organization President in 1990-91. I co-founded a local AHMP chapter in Northeast Ohio in 1991, served on the organization's Re-Branding task force in 2008, received the organization's highest honor in 2009 (Pete Cook Founder's Award for Distinguished Service), and was a founding member of the Bangalore, India AHMP chapter in 2008. I visited Bangalore in 2006, 2008, and 2012 and assisted in providing environmental training to India environmental professionals. I am currently serving on the Board of Directors of the Chicago AHMP chapter.

The Institute of Hazardous Materials Management IHMM) is a non-profit certification body that certifies environmental professionals, predominantly by evaluating/testing candidates and bestowing the Certified Hazardous Materials Manager credential. I served as a member of the IHMM Board of Directors (1988-2011) and as Board Chair from 2002-2007. I also served as Vice Chair from 2001-2002, as Secretary from 2000-2001, and as IHMM Marketing Committee Chair in 2003 and 2006. I was named a IHMM Honorary Fellow in 1996 and an IHMM Distinguished Diplomate in 2001.

National Accounts Manager for major industrial accounts of Groundwater Technology, Inc. (an environmental consulting firm). My accounts included Mobil Oil Corporation, General Motors, Anheuser-Busch, ITT Corporation, Baxter International, Honeywell, Motorola, Emerson Electric, Dana, Rockwell and Bridgestone / Firestone. I negotiated national contracts, developed marketing plans, nurtured strong client relations, acted as the senior contact, assured uniform quality work, provided technical assistance to project managers, and resolved client-company conflicts. Revenues from my accounts totaled approximately $10-15 M annually.

I worked for ten years as senior corporate environmental engineer at Eaton Corporation, a major multinational industrial manufacturer. I kept company managers informed of environmental regulations and assured compliance at over 100 manufacturing plants. I provided environmental consulting services, represented Eaton with governmental enforcement agencies, and assisted other corporate departments (i.e., legal, insurance, purchasing, transportation, real estate, safety, etc.) on environmental matters.
