Travelling. It can either make you miss home or forge a new one.The first overseas trip landed me in Sydney, Australia. The excitement, the breath of new air, the embodying of the cold was almost unnatural but enough to brave it through and marvel at the sights of the Sydney Opera House and The Sydney Harbour Bridge. Stunned at the views of these iconic engineering structures was enough to draw me back years later to push the ajar door into my future. And that is where I am pursuing my Civil Engineering degree in my 4th Year at The University of Newcastle. So, as I see it, engineering has somewhat been a part of my home and will continue to forge new ones throughout my career.Last summer, when I interned at HSS Engineering in Malaysia, I quickly picked up solving real world problems when adhering to the clients’ need whilst remaining cost-efficient. Fist-pumping when the structure(s) complied with its respective codes is underestimated feeling at the office. I became accustomed to engineering software such as Esteem, STAADPro and Teds(Tekla) in addition to Auto-Cad and Multiframe. I excel when working in collaborative groups to solve engineering problems.When I am not solving problems, I go for a beach run or hit the gym, winning soccer matches on the weekends, listening to motivational podcasts, watching re-runs of Suits, and having a beer or two with my best mates.
