In January of 2016 I received my ordination as a Rabbi from the Jewish Spiritual Leaders Institute in New York City. This represented the fulfillment of a longtime dream of mine to find a way to bring the depth and beauty of the Jewish wisdom tradition to practicing Jews, yes, but particularly to non-affiliated and disaffected Jews, as well as to non-Jews, who may at some point in their lives have need of the services of a rabbi.I have combined insights from Judaism and Buddhist mindfulness practices to establish a life and executive coaching consultancy that focuses on bringing forth one’s own wisdom to identify solutions effecting real and lasting change. I’ve worked with executives in retail, industrial, sports apparel, pharmaceutical, shipping and high tech. Currently my practice focuses primarily on working with founders of tech start-ups in South and Southeast Asia, primarily India. My Previous Professional LifeIn 1986 I co-founded a 501(c)(3) called Global Routes and became its Executive Director at that time. For the next 28 years I oversaw the development of the organization, which continues to have as its mission immersing high school and college age students in traditional cultures through the medium of homestays and service projects. Over the years we have run programs throughout Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean Basin. Thousands of high school students have built schoolhouses, community centers, and water projects in those 28 years. Much more, they left a legacy of connection, love and understanding and emerged with a more complete understanding of the world around them and clarified values about how they wanted to go forward in their lives. Hundreds of college students taught in rural schools for a semester during that time as well.In 2012 I left Global Routes but continue to advise those currently running the organization. I remain committed to building connections among different peoples, whether within an organization I direct or across great geographical divides.
