As a Professional Services Manager there are a few things I take pride in - leading a highly effective team and that team delivering on time and on budget ─ and I have been very successful at this. The secret? Keeping my eye on the ball, and knowing that while its always my job to make things easier for the people I work for and work with, I also always need to support my team in every way that I can. Another key: Knowing how to motivate a cross-functional team and keep them enthused about the job by being consistently enthusiastic myself. This isn’t something you’d think would show up as a skill for someone who has worked primarily as a telecommuter over his career, but I’ve always been able to build that buy-in and enthusiasm with my teams. My work style is characterized by very close attention to detail, excellent problem-solving skills, streamlining processes, and an ability to keep a tactical eye on the end goal. And perhaps most of all, a strong work ethic. I am proud to say that I completed two simultaneous graduate degrees, worked full-time, and had two kids in school ─ all at the same time. It may sound a bit old-fashioned, but I learned a lot of this from my Grandpa, who at 92 is still going strong; he has a strong work ethic, is an incredible craftsman, a wise investor and has always emphasized treating people right. I strive to be like him. I’ve been known to rise early in the morning for east coast calls, and work late into the night to help ensure our clientele are well served, and spend my free time dabbling in music and investing in the stock market.I’m looking forward to my next opportunity to take on an interesting and meaningful product or project, and welcome networking with my colleagues and discussing new job opportunities.
