Developed new experiential service learning and international travel course, Law, Crime, and Pop Culture Diplomacy: Fieldwork in South Korea. Provide academic advising to criminal justice majors and incoming first-year students and supervise undergraduate research.

Serve as a subject matter expert on Cadets at School programs and provide senior leadership and local leaders in the field with expert advice and assistance; collect and publicize best practices relating to the overall school program. Help develop policies to promote school-based units; assist in developing and updating publications. Conduct web-based training for school-based unit personnel. Serve as advisor to the commander on public affairs matters. Implements and manages squadron public affairs program. Manage internal and external public affairs activities (e.g., open houses, recruiting events, school presentations, website and social media pages). Serve as editor and contributing writer for quarterly squadron newsletter. Prepare Annual Public Relations Plan and Public Affairs Crisis Communications Plan. Brief commander on public affairs initiatives and provides recommendations for areas of improvement. Responsible for mentoring team of cadet PAOs to effectively carry out squadron PA and IT activities and programs. Assist in the establishment of training programs to help all unit members promote CAP within their communities. Spearheaded development of “New Cadet Orientation Packet” to assist new members in adapting to cadet life (2016). Efforts as PAO resulted in significant increase in cadet membership (from 4 cadets to 20 cadets in a span of three years). Assisted RSC Director with planning and execution of 2019 RSC, prepare suspense schedule, process student applications, and ensure RSC runs as scheduled and within specified budget. Worked with RSC Director and Region staff to revise and enhance RSC curriculum to provide students with superior leadership and management learning opportunities. Identified staffing needs and recruit support staff including course instructors, seminar leaders, and public affairs, logistics, hospitality, and transportation staff. Developed Region Staff College Seminar Leader’s Guide and Region Staff College Student’s Guide, training and curriculum manuals for instructors and students. Served as Lead Seminar Advisor and Instructor to 3 seminar advisors and 18 CAP officers enrolled in RSC.

Co-founded the International Graduate School and International Legal Studies program in coordination with Vice President, Dean of the International Graduate School, and other university executives; inaugural class admitted Fall 2019. Oversaw International Legal Studies program, supervising 2 faculty members, 2 administrative staff, and 2 student assistants to ensure smooth program implementation. Directed internal and external public affairs and student recruitment initiatives; convened and served on new faculty hiring and student applicant review committees; develop curriculum; and scheduled courses. Taught graduate seminars: “Comparative Justice Systems,” “Ethical Practices for Legal Practitioners,” and “Cyber and Information Crimes.” Teach undergraduate courses: “U.S. Government and Politics” and “Introduction to Sociology.” Served as a member of the IGS Steering Committee and IGS Student Conduct and Ethics Committee.

Oversaw the Courses in International General Education (CIGE) program including supervision of 12 faculty members across 5 academic departments, 4 administrative staff, and 2 student assistants, planning of public affairs and student recruitment initiatives. Provided student counseling and guidance on academic performance, career objectives, and personal matters. Advised students and staff on international education and study abroad opportunities and oversaw the application review process for study abroad participants to ensure successful admission. Managed internal and external marketing, outreach, and recruitment activities and collaborated with partner universities to develop exchange agreements and dual degree programs. As a member of the Global Outreach Program Advisory Board, developed strategic plan for public affairs and outreach efforts to increase international student enrollment and expand relationships with overseas partner universities. Increased domestic and international student enrollment and reduced cancellation of CIGE classes since assuming the directorship of GEI’s undergraduate programs. Appointed as ILS Dept. Chair.

Oversaw Masters in International Teaching program and supervised 8 faculty members, 2 administrative staff, and 4 student assistants. Provided advice and guidance to undergraduate and graduate students as Student Conduct and Ethics Committee chair, Global Honors Program advisor, and thesis committee chair and advisor. Developed thesis guidelines and evaluation procedures and contributed to course development for new Masters in International Teaching and Masters in International Service programs. Taught graduate seminars: “Communication for International Educators” and “Research Methods.” Taught undergraduate courses: “Introduction to Sociology” and “Introduction to International Relations and Diplomacy.” Coordinated public affairs and student recruitment initiatives, set up a review/interview committee for new faculty and student applicants, and scheduled courses. Co-founded Interstellar, the Namseoul University International Student Association, served as a faculty advisor, mentored student officers and assisted in planning on- and off-campus events and activities. Spearheaded the development of the Masters in International Legal Studies program with proposed concentrations in Law and Diplomacy and Comparative Criminology; program launched September 2019. Promoted to GEI Director of Undergraduate Programs.

Provided counseling and advice to undergraduate students and research assistants on academic performance, career objectives, study abroad and internship opportunities, and personal matters. Taught undergraduate courses: “Police English,” “White Collar Crime,” “Comparative Policing,” and “Comparative Criminal Justice Systems”. Provided guidance and recommendations to students applying for internships and study abroad programs resulting in their admission to selective internship programs with U.S. Embassy-Seoul and U.S. Army Garrison-Daegu. Received teaching evaluation scores within the 90th percentile, rating at the top among Police Administration Department faculty (2014 – 2015). Awarded University President’s Award for Exceptional Teaching (2015) for receiving highest teaching evaluation scores among over 50 foreign faculty members university-wide during 2014 academic year.

Mentored 30 Korean AYLP high school student participants and 30 American National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y) high school student participants. Mentored and advised AYLP co-leaders consisting of six U.S. Fulbright grantees and six Korean university students. Supervised U.S. Embassy university student interns assigned to AYLP Planning & Coordination Team. Facilitated planning meetings and debriefings with U.S. Embassy staff and AYLP team co-leaders.

Conducted conversational English classes and developed interactive curriculum designed to engage students in community service and volunteerism. Responsible for evaluation and assignment of grades to 500+ students; first Fulbright ETA at Young-il High School in 7-year history of ETAs granted authority to assign grades to students. Created and administered selection process for student applicants to U.S. Embassy’s Alumni Youth Leadership Project, including analytical writing exam, personal interview and group discussion exercise. Worked with students to improve public speaking skills in preparation for speech contests; student awarded “Special Prize” in International Youth Fellowship English Speech Contest, student awarded “Gold Prize” in UNESCO English Speech Contest.

Drafted Mission Activity Reports and proofread Korean-to-English translations of press releases. Assisted in coordination of press events for the U.S. Ambassador, Minister-Counselor for Public Affairs, Embassy Spokesperson, and senior USG officials. Monitored and analyzed current events via print and broadcast media, and provided summary of significant events to Information Office staff during daily briefings. Assisted Information Resource Center staff with planning and implementing public outreach activities and events (Embassy Youth Forum, American Cinema Evenings, career development presentations). Mentored 30 Korean high school students participating in Alumni-Youth Leadership Project and facilitated students’ projects and activities.
