On entering the BU I modified the qualification process requiring the suppliers to be more responsible for their developments. As a result, we were able to leverage auditing the development activities at the suppliers more effectively. This resulted in issue identification earlier with less issues in later development. The first three I handled over the duration of my time in GSM. I negotiated Master Purchasing Agreements with Delta & Astec, as well as lesser contracts with other suppliers. During the 2001 economic turn down I negotiated excess inventory claims for power supplies from $3.4M down to $1.9M. I was asked to intercede in the fan commodity as well and reduced claims there from $3.3M to $197K. In a product recall, our claim to the supplier dragged for 9 months, I was asked in and negotiated a $2.5M target settlement in 6 days.For the extent of my GSM assignment I led engineering and manufacturing teams on supplier qualification and continuing audits as lead assessor (trained in 1998). This facility also included the factory where I gained much manufacturing process experience. In 1995 I was assigned to the Arizona aerospace division for 8 weeks when poor manufacturing quality prevented shipments. During the 8 weeks I drove their quality levels back up to expectations by reviewing and improving processes, working hands on with the work force. I received a corporate award for that effort.
