As Managing Director, Global Lands Team at The Nature Conservancy, I oversaw a suite of conservation strategies to address the most pressing challenges facing people and nature in the US, and around the world, including: sustainable forestry and agriculture; smarter siting and mitigation of infrastructure developments; partnerships with indigenous peoples; and enhancing public policies, innovative financing and other strategies to protect wildlife habitat and landscapes.

The Canada Program's primary focus during my tenure was the completion of the Great Bear Rainforest campaign and project. This innovative partnership with local First Nations, environmental groups, major philanthropic foundations and others helped to ensure natural resource and cultural protection, and sustainable economic development within 21 million acres along the coastline of British Colombia.

As Associate Director of TNC's largest international Region, I helped manage, advise and mentor country program staff from Australia, Indonesia and Micronesia to China. I also helped manage the Asia Pacific Council, an advisory board of prominent regional business leaders chaired by then-Goldman Sachs CEO Henry Paulson.

As the first in-country Director for Australia, I developed a strategic vision and plan for TNC, identified and built relationships with local partners and launched the Conservancy's program down under. This was a two year expatriate assignment, based in Brisbane Australia. Today the Australia Program is focused primarily on partnerships with local indigenous peoples and a Water Fund on the Murray-Darling River, and is one of TNC's most dynamic international programs.

After joining the Maine Chapter in 1982, I served as Director of Land Protection and Associate State Director before becoming State Director in 1991. During my tenure in Maine, the Chapter was recognized as TNC's best state program three times, and gained a reputation as one of TNC's most innovative and successful programs.
