Visual Communicator - Photography, Illustration & DesignWith a degree in "Advertising and Editorial Art" my training included illustration & design. One of my earliest jobs was doing illustrations & info-graphics for the Kansas City Star. Following that I segued into advertising, using humorous illustration & cartooning at an illustration/design studio, which became the springboard for launching my freelance career.I freelanced full time from 1983-2003. At that point my work swerved into toy design for the restaurant industry. This allowed me to do something I'd always wanted to do, focus on character design. What a blast to see characters I'd created take shape as 3D products!Having begun working in traditional media, I made the transition to the computer in the mid nineties. With the move to digital work I again began doing more and more graphic design, taking on book covers, CD packaging and logo design. However, even though most of my work now is digital, it still generally starts as analog drawings. There's nothing that compares with the feel of pencil on paper. My clients have included American and Southwest Airlines, Cheetos, Pepsi Co, Sports Illustrated and SI for Kids, Galyans Sports, Betty Crocker, Virgin Interative, Hasbro, Logitech, Seven Eleven, the Chicago Tribune, LA Times and Time Magazine, among others. Specialties: Versatility of style and technique are hallmarks of my work. Adobe Photoshop is where I work extensively, but know Adobe Illustrator and work in InDesign & DreamWeaver. Along with illustration & design, I have been branching out into photography and have done a little bit of voice work for Softek videos and one character in an animated educational video for the University of Kansas, produced by Bazillion Pictures.
