Nursery Nurse, Team Leader
Play And Learn Nursery
New Barnet, London
I studied my Nursery Nurse course at this nursery, where I built myself up to becoming a team leader and trained alongside the SENCO. The children I was responsible for, were children with special learning needs, where they needed one-to-one interaction. I took great responsibility for this and made sure I went out of my way to meeting every child's needs, this consisted of working alongside parents to help form a strong network to giving the child's best opportunity for learning. At the beginning and end of each day, myself and the parents gave feedback on the child's actions of the day, including what they have eaten, their activities, how they have coped Etc, this helped to keep up to date with the child's needs and to handover. I also had weekly meetings with the SENCO, sometimes more frequently if matters needed to be assessed sooner, I would relay all notes taken during that week and gained feedback and instructions if changes needed to be made.I was in charge of storytelling and displays, this was a particularly enjoyable part of my time there as I got the children involved in it all. This helped to give a small part of responsibility to them, that they really seemed to enjoy, as well as learning particular skills such as teamwork. This didn't only help to improve the children's skills, but also I had learnt about them too, it gave me the opportunity to see through their eyes, to see what they enjoyed, how they wanted the nursery to be laid out, what interested them and how I could help to make it all happen.
