This is the beginning of my apirations to become an Art Therapist which I wish to pursue in the near future through furthering my experience with children on 1:1 basis and group work.I am currently studying Applied Behaviour Analysis, this is developing my understanding surrounding Ethics and Human rights and the history of where it came from and how it proceeds to move in a more positive and person centred direction. Nanny

Private Nanny

Hertfordshire

This is a continuing role for a private family within the Hertfordshire region. I ensure that the children have been taken to clubs and appointments on time, where I follow a busy schedule. Alongside that support their academic needs with extended learning. This role puts me in a position to take up a parental role, being the go-to person for the children to feel safe and comfortable while their parents are away. I use particular skills to approach tricky situations with a calm and respectful manner, de-escalating a situation by using behavioural methods learnt within the prevent training. Regular contact with the parents is key making sure they and myself are updated with important information.Creating activities based on their ideas and interests, allowing them to lead with their imagination, but making sure to contain within the safety boundaries.Working closely with a family 1:1 is a personal process, following each step of their growth as a professional and meeting their individual needs suitably.

Art Therapist (Work Experience)

Future Living Hertford

Hertford

I found this opportunity through my University, it was great to experience part of the job role where I worked alongside a professional Art Therapist. I was able to run a few sessions where I used the topic of the week to plan activities for groups to interact with. This also included a period of time to reflect at the end of each session with and without clients present. Future Living is a Wellness Centre that offers therapeutic services for addiction recovery and domestic abuse, which is something out of my comfort zone as I am experienced with working with children only. It was interesting to step out of that box and see other areas where I can offer help and support.

Artist

Future Living Hertford

Hertford

Alongside gaining experience in Art Therapy, I was originally asked to produce a mural that represents growth and recovery. Future livings logo is a tree of hands, which I really liked and thought it would be a great representative for the brief. I included a ladder within the design beginning at the colour black where you climb into vibrant colours, this was to show the darkness that the clients came from, the roots being a metaphor for their experience. Getting the clients involved was a major part to making this mural mean something and be a part of the centre, using their hands to decorate the leaves, showing their growth and what they are achieving as they begin to recover. I was the designer for this mural and had other people from my University help me paint the overall outcome. The design to the left of the image was drawn from my fellow colleague who also helped to paint.

Nursery Nurse, Team Leader

Play And Learn Nursery

New Barnet, London

I studied my Nursery Nurse course at this nursery, where I built myself up to becoming a team leader and trained alongside the SENCO. The children I was responsible for, were children with special learning needs, where they needed one-to-one interaction. I took great responsibility for this and made sure I went out of my way to meeting every child's needs, this consisted of working alongside parents to help form a strong network to giving the child's best opportunity for learning. At the beginning and end of each day, myself and the parents gave feedback on the child's actions of the day, including what they have eaten, their activities, how they have coped Etc, this helped to keep up to date with the child's needs and to handover. I also had weekly meetings with the SENCO, sometimes more frequently if matters needed to be assessed sooner, I would relay all notes taken during that week and gained feedback and instructions if changes needed to be made.I was in charge of storytelling and displays, this was a particularly enjoyable part of my time there as I got the children involved in it all. This helped to give a small part of responsibility to them, that they really seemed to enjoy, as well as learning particular skills such as teamwork. This didn't only help to improve the children's skills, but also I had learnt about them too, it gave me the opportunity to see through their eyes, to see what they enjoyed, how they wanted the nursery to be laid out, what interested them and how I could help to make it all happen.
