A leading expert in the Youth Travel industry for over 20 years. I am a host family expert and am passionate about young people's experiences. My work with Study Abroad UK has enabled me to develop a quality student exchange programme at an affordable price. I am an organiser I do whatever it takes to get the job done. I don't do failure. I am proud of what I do. I change people's lives, I make things happen even when it seems impossible. I open doors, and get things off the ground.I also enjoy supporting the host families, they are not just our volunteers, they are our friends. I feel the same about my staff team too. I always say to my team, when this work feels like a job, you need to quit.. Study Abroad UK has a very low turnover of staff and I can say in all my time very few report in sick. Days off are rare and pretty much unknown. I have a mantra with my team. "If work feels like a job then quit" All my staff have my private mobile number, I don't disappear when the office shuts. About Study Abroad UKYoung people from all over the world come to experience life in Britain and to encourage British young people to become global citizens. They live in carefully vetted host families and are supported by our volunteers and staff. Young people take part in exchanges, work placements, English classes and various other projects and programmes.Study Abroad UK and the Turing SchemeRecently we have been awarded a special grant from the Turing Scheme to send British students abroad. I am very excited about this new project as generally British students can't afford the trip. It will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience and I am very much enjoying facilitating this programme.

Education ManagerStaffordshire County Council Sep 2008 - Aug 2010Staffordshire MoorlandsI recruited, trained and observed teachers/tutors to deliver short learning experiences in the community. It was my role to identify hard-to-reach groups who should receive this education. I had my own budget which (to the frustration of the council) I never needed. Also, I would reach my annual target of learners within 6 weeks, which also put noses out of joint. A new manager came along and she tried to stop me in my tracks slowing everything down was not for me after all this was tax payers money paying my wages. I would rather be getting things done than constantly attending pointless meetings and training sessions which solved mno purpose at all. People started to notice my work in the community, I wrote a parenting column in the Leek Post and Times, I was also head hunted by Leek College to help them attract learners and I even went to senior management board meetings. One thing I am really good at is recruitment. Finding people to do things. -
Regional ManagerEf Education First May 1994 - Jul 2004Staffordshire, England, United KingdomI started with this organisation as an International Ecucation Co-ordinator. My job was to find people who would welcome a young person into their home for free for 1 year. It was no mean feat. I almost gave up then one day I thought I am going out and I am not coming back until I find a host. I achieved exactly that, I went to the local leisure centre and had a talk with a retired group playing table tennis. One couple stood up and said "that is exactly what we would love to do" They went on to host my first student a lovely Japanese girl called Tamoko. I became the UK's top recruiter for finding host families and I believe I still I still hold that title today. In fact I still have one family who has been with me since about 1995. I love finding host families because I know that once they sign up, their life will be changed forever.
