About Kerry Franklin

I have over 8 years of experience in the postal sorting industry. During this time I ported Windows’ code to UNIX and Linux platforms, developed installations for all Bell and Howell projects and helped design and develop various projects using VS2008 and VS2013.I have over 15 years of experience in the telecommunication and wireless messaging fields. During this time I developed relational databases and the core subsystems that access them. In the last 10+ years I was involved in the full development life-cycle of object-oriented client interfaces to relational databases, multi-threaded mission critical messaging applications, data migrations, and Tier III support. These databases and subsystems were required to handle millions of transactions per day and were a vital component of SkyTel wireless messaging systems.I have expertise in C++, Informix, SQL, Windows and UNIX. I have a BS in both Computer Science and Mathematics. Specialties:Languages: C++, C#, ANSI C and SQLDatabases: Informix and MS SQL Server Platforms: Linux Redhat, HP UNIX, AIX and Windows 7 Compilers: GCC and MS Visual C++ 2008 and 2013 Scripting: Python, Perl, csh and bash

  • Mci/Skytel
    Sr. Software Eng. Ii
    Mci/Skytel 1994 - 2005
Responsible for developing the multi-threaded core messaging subsystems and databases in a UNIX environment. This system handled over a million wireless, 2-way messages per day with sub-second response times, all of which were stored in a database. A 2-way message consisted of the original message plus all replies associated with it. Since SkyTel “guaranteed delivery” of all messages a complex system for redelivering failed messages was required. These responsibilities required that I have a complete understanding of the entire 2-way messaging system, interact with various teams involved in the development of other subsystems, provide documentation to QA, occasionally train Operation’s personel, coordinate with project management teams, and give Tier III support for any production issues.
