Walkley Award-winning journalist Kerry Warren has worked in journalism for 15 years. Kerry completed a Bachelor of Communications – Journalism at UTS before doing a summer internship at the Sydney Morning Herald. After a brief stint at Fairfax Community Newspapers, Kerry returned to the SMH for two years before relocating to London, where she worked as a journalist and sub-editor for print and online. Returning to Sydney in 2010, she spent seven years as Digital Managing Editor of The Australian Women’s Weekly, before moving to News Corp Australia in 2017. She joined the news.com.au team in January, 2018, as Commissioning Editor before becoming Afternoon News Editor in June 2020. Kerry, alongside journalists Nina Funnell and Lori Youmshajekian, won the 2020 Walkley Award for Public Service Journalism for the #LetHerSpeak campaign to overturn sexual assault gag laws. This campaign also won numerous other awards, including Campaign of the Year at the 2019 News Awards.

Digital Managing EditorBauer Xcel Media Jan 2011 - Aug 2017Sydney, AustraliaI transformed the digital platforms of The Australian Women's Weekly from an under-performing and outdated website to the biggest magazine site in the country with a Facebook following of 575,000, a stable of influential bloggers and opinion writers and a steady stream of exclusive stories that helped shape the national news agenda.In this role I:- Delivered an average of 65,000-85,000 users per day (up from 16,000 per day when I started) through a combination of original reporting, opinion pieces, exclusive content provided from the magazine team and carefully curated rewrites.- Compiled and assigned a daily news list to ensure a mix of breaking news, politics, lifestyle and opinion content.- Developed and implemented a social media strategy that maintained a Facebook reach surpassing 15 million, providing more than 80 per cent of the site’s traffic.- Managed a team of five digital content managers and more than 15 high-profile contributors, including managing freelance and contributor budgets.- Used analytics to determine which stories to pursue and which angles would work best for maximum impact.- Commissioned and edited a wide range of content from sex and relationship columns to investigations on the impact of ice in western Sydney primary schools.- Collaborated with the digital sales teams to create innovative responses to sales briefs for clients including Priceline, Qantas, Westpac and L’Oreal.- Provided digital support to major magazine campaigns including the Women of the Future Awards, Ovarian Cancer Research Fund and National Adoption Awareness Week.- Managed a major site relaunch. -
