Led the production of custom websites, video, editorial content, podcasts and social media for clients including Walmart Canada, Canadian Western Bank, the Alberta Motor Association, Queen Elizabeth Scholars and Covenant Health.

I was responsible for overseeing the on-air and online reporters and producers at what was then Alberta's most-watched and -followed news organization. It was a fun, busy newsroom grappling with pressure on the industry and a wild time in Alberta politics and culture.

Directed the development of new digital products and oversaw existing ones for the Edmonton Journal, part of Postmedia Network Inc. Supervised web developers and designers and lead a interdepartmental digital strategy group.

Directed the development and placement of digital editorial content, social media and audience engagement strategies, and traffic analysis and optimization for multiple platforms. Supervised digital news staff and coordinated with colleagues in advertising, marketing and reader sales.

Editor of food, wine and dining content for the newspaper and all digital platforms. Founding editor of Taste Alberta, a series about food grown, produced and processed in Alberta, in partnership with the Calgary Herald and the Alberta Livestock and Meat Agency. Taste Alberta was an early and successful example of profitable sponsored content that served readers' interests, answered client needs and preserved editorial integrity.

Editor of the weekly Body & Health, Bistro (food, dining and wine), Life and LifeStyle sections in the newspaper and on edmontonjournal.com, overseeing a staff of writers and sub-editors.

Editor of the Culture (arts and entertainment) section of the newspaper, overseeing a staff of writers, columnists and sub-editors.

Founding editor of the cutting-edge Saturday tabloid aimed at 18- to 35-year-olds. After a maternity leave from Aug. 2002 to Sept. 2003, and a short stint as a special projects editor, I returned as editor in Nov. 2003.

Worked with the city editor and morning assignment editor to assign stories to a staff of about 30 reporters, communicated with the night news desk, handled staff schedules and co-ordinated weekend news coverage and features.

I joined The Journal as a summer intern and was hired as an editorial assistant in January 1994, then promoted to general assignment reporter a year later. I spent most of the next year working as a crime reporter.As legal affairs writer for the next six years, I reported on cases before the Alberta provincial court, Court of Queen's Bench and Court of Appeal. I designed and maintained a searchable database to help Journal reporters track cases. It was still a vital tool years later. In 1999, I shifted to copy editing on the night city desk and frequently filled in as night city editor.
