I held responsibility for all aspects of the leadership, management, and provision of the academic life of a large, co-educational day school of 2100 pupils and over 300 staff. This included overseeing the culture of learning, the quality of teaching, the curriculum, examinations, assessment and reporting, academic budgets, and all aspects of staffing from recruitment and professional development.

As HoD English my responsibilities included managing the planning and delivery of the curriculum; improving standards of teaching and learning; managing and leading twelve colleagues; analysis of data relating to students’ progress and attainment; development and monitoring of policy and practice. As a resident tutor I was fully involved in the life of the Boarding House, with responsibility for the students one night each weekday and one in four weekends.

I was initially employed as 2i/c English at Cheltenham and enjoyed occupying this role until 09/07. As Hod English and Resident Tutor of Boyne House, my responsibilities were very similar to those at Abingdon School. In addition, I tutored Sixth Form girls and boys, chaired whole-school working parties, and was a member of the Academic Policy group.
