In my current work at Oxford Nanopore Technologies I am focused on the analysis of microelectrode recordings of biological nanopores for the purpose of detection and identification of single molecules as they pass through the pore. This work also involves considerable work in the areas of algorithm development, experimental design, scientific programming, and software development.

My work at Philips Research primarily concerned signal processing of neural time-series data. This has involved the development of novel methods for characterizing microelectrode recordings made during neurosurgical procedures, including such topics as estimation of background noise, detection of action-potentials, artifact rejection, and statistical characterization of spike-trains. This project has also involved considerable work in the areas of medical software design, data visualization, and object oriented programming.

During this period I did a considerable amount of work on the proper application of nonlinear analysis methods to neural signals. The main emphasis was on the statistical analysis of nonlinear properties of experimental data, and the application of surrogate analysis techniques for deriving theoretical expectations for the null hypothesis case of a linear stochastic process.
