Project Director & Musical DirectorSchool Live Arts Wales - Sla Cymru Jan 2000 - Dec 2002St David'S Hall - CardiffA Cross Phase KS2/3 Multi – Agency Arts Project involving 1000 children and young people with their teachers from across Wales.School Live Arts Wales in partnership with The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award brought together approximately 1000 children and young people between the ages of 10 to 19 with their teachers in an Arts Project entitled The Pied Viper by Debbie Campbell.School Live Arts Wales was chosen to perform at St David’s Hall, Cardiff for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Biennial General Council. The performance was attended by TRH The Duke of Edinburgh and the Earl and Countess of Wessex together with elected members, officers and staff from all Local Authorities throughout the UK, key figures from Business and Commerce and representatives from the Award throughout the World. The challenging initiative offered a unique Multi - Agency, Cross-Phase and Cross LEA approach to the Arts targeting children from 40 Primary and Secondary Schools and Duke of Edinburgh’s Award young people from all over Wales. It grew out of the success of Junior Live Arts, whose aim was to foster and develop Music and the Performing Arts in schools.Along with the fun, the sense of achievement and lessons in teamwork, the children and young people were enlightened and alerted to the dangers of substance misuse. Hopefully the all important message of ‘Stop Before you Start’ will have had a positive and lasting effect on all their futures.Kevin Phillips said “ Schools Live Arts Wales has helped spearhead the awareness of the potential dangers of drug misuse whilst very positively celebrating and sharing the wonderful diversity of the children and young peoples’ creative talents. The power of music and the arts to inspire and inform is unique -say yes to its inspiration and no to drugs.”
