Project Officers in the Canadian Nuclear Laboratories Regulatory Program Division perform a wide range of licensing and compliance activitiesSummary of Tasks: • Acted as the single point of contact for licensing and compliance matters related to the Whiteshell Laboratories nuclear research and test facility, Gentilly-1 Waste Facility, and Douglas Point Waste Facility• Coordinated technical reviews of licensee submissions• Performed inspections at a wide range of different nuclear facilities, including nuclear research and test facilities and decommissioning sites. Monitored completion of inspections against the baseline compliance plan• Led the regulatory effort for major licensing actions including a licence renewal for the Whiteshell Laboratories nuclear research and test facility and a licence amendment to proceed with active decommissioning of the Douglas Point Waste Facility• Conducted outreach with members of the public and Indigenous communities to inform them of the CNSC’s regulatory efforts and oversight of activities at licensed facilities. I hosted webinars, attended community meetings and events, provided updated material for the CNSC website and directly responded to inquiries from interested parties.

Power Reactor Site Inspectors at the Bruce Site Office are responsible for verifying the compliance of Bruce Power, which operates eight units between two stations located on the site.Summary of Tasks: • Led type II inspections of licensee’s programs to ensure compliance with relevant standards, their operating license, and other regulatory requirements• Performed field walk-downs of the licensee facilities to ensure that equipment is well maintained, there are no unmarked hazards, and that licensee procedures are being followed • Attended licensee meetings and reviewed relevant databases to identify items that require follow-up• Reviewed reportable events to determine if any regulatory action was required• Mentored new hires on the role of a site inspector

The Compliance Monitoring Division is a support division within the Directorate of Power Reactor Regulation. My division is responsible for OPEX, international obligations, event investigation, and the development of inspection tools (checklists, procedures) used by the site inspectors. Commiserate with the wide mission of my division; I have been involved in a wide range of technical activities. Summary of Tasks:• Identified an area for improvement regarding the processing of reportable events. Performed international benchmarking, convinced all levels of management of the need for improvement, and led a successful pilot of the updated process• Investigated events at the Darlington and Pickering Nuclear Generating Stations• Contributed to an IAEA document titled ‘Best practices in the development, implementation and operation of a Low Level Events and Near Misses Process at Nuclear Power Plants’ • Produced a discussion paper on Loss of Class IV commissioning tests following Candu refurbishment • Worked with representative inspectors from each of the reactor sites to develop a main control room inspection guide • Prepared Canada's contributions for a WGOE paper on transformer fires

I was on assignment with the Operational Safety Section of the Division of Nuclear Installation Safety between December 19, 2011 and June 15, 2012. Summary of Tasks:• Worked extensively on the International Reporting System (IRS) database. • Organized the Event Review Group meetings to screen incoming OPEX reports for the IRS database• Assisted with the preparation of 'Highlights from the International Reporting System for Operating Expirience (IRS) for events in 2010 – 2011'• Contributed to the creation of the publication: 'Nuclear Power Plant Operating Experience from the IAEA / NEA International Reporting System for Operating Experience 2009 - 2011 (The Blue Book on Operating Expirience)'

Offered ongoing technical support to address Operations, Design, Maintenance, and Commissioning needs for two nuclear reactors (MAPLE 1 and MAPLE 2) and a hot cell facility (New Processing Facility). I provided knowledge and support for a wide range of activities.Summary of Tasks:• Created System Performance Monitoring Plans for the Electrical Equipment in the MAPLE reactors and New Processing Facility • Prepared and reviewed technical documents fulfilling Design, Operational, Maintenance, and Commissioning needs• Provided knowledge and support for a wide range of activities related to the Electrical System• Updated procedures and led training on the changes• Led work to diagnose and repair emergency equipment after a failure. Acted quickly to restore equipment to a safe state• Performed Self Assessments of processes and Apparent Cause Analysis for unplanned events, in order to identify Corrective Actions and Opportunities for Improvement in the Dedicated Isotopes Facilities • Upon project cancellation, helped develop and implement a plan to place the electrical equipment of the Dedicated Isotopes facility into a safe, long-term storage state • Successful completion of these roles required the ability to work independantly and within groups.
