I have 14 years of IT experience in many disciplines. Currently, I am a middleware administrator for Cambia Health Solutions. We provide IT and other shared services to four Blue Cross/Blue Shield plans, as well as a number of health care related start up companies. My current focus is to standardize and automate an environment of 500+ Apache web servers, 500+ Tomcat servers, 175+ WebSphere Application Servers and 100+ OpenESB/Glassfish servers running on Linux/Unix and Windows. This is a very diverse application environment, with varying combinations of clustering and load balancing to achieve fault tolerance and high availability. We are applying DevOps principals with tools such as Python, Perl, Bash, Ansible and git to apply Infrastructure as Code strategies to reduce configuration drift and standardize infrastructure. I am also very excited about our orchestration efforts using Ansible to automate complex operations across multiple platforms including web server, application server and load balancer tiers. Extending this automation and configuration management to cloud services such as AWS and Azure is a new challenge I am working on. Exploring application containerization using Docker is another technology I am looking at.
