I am a devoted husband, father, and community member. As Leader of the Official Opposition for the BC Liberal Party and MLA for Vancouver-Quilchena, I advocate for common-sense politics that focus on growing a strong economy, reducing the tax burden faced by middle-class British Columbians, and providing support to the most vulnerable in our province.I was born and raised on the North Shore of Vancouver. My journey in provincial politics began in 2001 when I was elected as the BC Liberal Party MLA for Surrey-Cloverdale. I was re-elected twice by my constituents and held a number of portfolios, such as the Minister of State for Deregulation, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure, Minister of Health, Deputy Premier, and Minister of Finance.In late 2012, I made the decision to step away from politics to focus on family and raising my two young daughters. During this time, I continued with my community service work with several non-profit organizations, including the Canuck Place Foundation, the Lions Gate Hospital, and the Streettohome Foundation.In 2013, I joined Anthem Capital and oversaw a portfolio of investments including mining, technology, craft beer, and housing development.In 2022, I was elected leader of the BC Liberal Party. I subsequently was elected as the MLA for Vancouver-Quilchena in a by-election that same year.Ten years ago, I left politics for my young girls. I’m returning to politics, not just for them, but for their entire generation.
