National Oilwell Varco is one of the largest oilfield service companies in the world. I started there as a field service tech working on the rig control systems where I troubleshot networking and control issues, and trained new drillers how to use the controls systems. Later I transferred to corporate to use my experience in the field to solve inefficiencies and other problems from a business process standpoint.• Working together with the Business Intelligence team I identified scores of inefficiencies in the report generation process and implemented key changes in report requesting by consolidating the number of people that would field requests. I also implemented a progress tracking system that focused on keeping my customers informed of every step of the process. The result was a dramatic reduction in turnaround time for new reports from 3-4 months to only a 1-2 weeks.• As the lead administrator for our company-developed quotation software, I troubleshot issues and trained users to maximize efficiency in quotation operations. I documented problems I encountered and the methods used to fix them and shared these with the developers. This led to a reduction in program bugs and work stoppages due to outages.• As a training coordinator I implemented a system of interactive training modules online to engage new users as they learned to work with the new quotations software. Previously online training modules were nothing more that bland unengaging PowerPoint presentations – passive learning. With this new interactive training method new users not only learned more quickly but were able to retain the information that they gained.

Baker Hughes is a large global oilfield services company specializing in drilling tools. I worked at Baker Hughes serving as a marketing specialist for all 11 of their Oilfield Services Product Lines ranging from Small Mud Pumps to entire drilling systems.• When our sales department complained that they didn’t have any visual aids to help in their sales meetings, I created one-sheet marketing pages called Performance Updates that the sales people could take directly to their clients to show how Baker Hughes products made a positive impact in the oil patch. Our sales people were more confident, our clientele was more informed, and this led to a dramatic increase in closed sales.• When new facilities were established my team and I planned marketing events to stir up interest in the local market. Because of our outreach each new facility had a network of businesses to build on, and they quickly reached significant gains/profits from these established contacts.

Gulf States Toyota is the largest independent distributor of Toyota vehicles in the United States. I interned with them while in college and was hired on as a marketing specialist soon after I graduated in 2008.• When the company was approached about partnering with a prospective supplier in a new industry, I researched the industry’s profitability potential. My research led decision makers to reject the opportunity and in doing so the company saved millions of dollars. • I profiled the competition in the customized truck market while working with the accessories department, and because of my research senior management realigned their strategy for the new Toyota Tundra. As a result was the Tundra outsold any other special editions truck in our market for almost 2 years.
