Developed and maintained the StoryRock application framework which allows many different UI’s to be implemented on top of a common foundation. I separated and modularized the framework from a tightly coupled application. I implemented many of the API’s including printing, remote content web services and picture exporting subsystems. This allowed the company to offer custom development services for various business partners, efficiently expand our portfolio of products and boosted revenue. These products are JavaFX and Swing desktop applications for cross platform deployment on Macs and PCs. These applications include the award winning My Memories Suite™ digital scrapbook application, My Digital Studio™ for Stampin’ Up!, PrintMaster, The Print Shop for Mac and Calendar Creator distributed by Encore Software Inc.I was responsible for JNI C++ integration for Windows and Mac OS to support platform specific functions. I bundled and successfully submitted the Java based PrintMaster to the Mac App Store with support for In-App purchases by using a Java to Objective-C bridge. Other technologies include iText library for PDF importing and exporting and Install4j cross platform installation on Mac OS X and Windows. We use an embedded JavaDB to provide asset searching that I designed and implemented. I also created the database schema, JDBC interface, and SQL queries. These products also include web service clients to communicate with various hosts to allow for on demand downloading of assets and a professional printing backend for photobook, calendar, and greeting card publishing. These clients are implemented using Apache Axis to talk with a .NET web service via SOAP and the Google Guava library for RESTful services. The project files and SOAP web service requests and responses are all XML. RESTful service requests and responses use JSON.I engineered and deployed an automated build environment for continuous integration using CruiseControl, CVS/SVN, and Ant.

Developed a touch screen capable user interface for the Ultrasound CT breast cancer scanner in Java utilizing Swing. Wrote shared libraries that allow the Java UI to communicate with the backend scanner application using JNI and C++. Wrote the detailed UI design document describing the implementation from the UI Requirements and System Specification documents.Designed and implemented an automated Ant build environment that performs nightly builds and integrated it with the existing build system.Built an automated test suite using JUnit, jfcUnit, and CPPUnit that runs autonomous unit tests to exercise the various UI components after each build. Wrote the application installation program to deploy the scanner software on Linux using Java, RPMs, and shell scripts.

Designed and implemented the award winning Clusterworx 3.x management software (Best Cluster Management - Monitoring Solution at Clusterworld in 2003 and 2004) for Linux clusters. Designed and built tools to manage these highly scalable systems that required thorough knowledge of distributed architectures and programming ideologies. Wrote back-end modules including licensing, workload services, and resource administration. Created GUI applications to interact with these back-end services.Extensive UI design and development experience. Expert knowledge of Java, especially Swing/JFC. Also used C++ primarily with JNI to interface with Linux system functions. Devised system specific protocols and interfaces to allow communication between remote services and UI applications.I also designed and built the company intranet. Created web applications for document collaboration, employee directory, and initial sales quote system. The online sales quote system allowed sales reps to more than quadruple the number of quotes they generated and helped to double sales revenue year upon year from about 10 million to nearly 50 million in 4 years. Used PHP, MySQL, and Javascript. Built upon the phpGroupWare open source project and was deployed on Linux.
