Graduate Research Assistant
As a graduate research assistant, my focus was to push the boundaries of gravitational wave data analysis, specifically for future space-based gravitational wave detectors. During this time, I published two well cited papers with one first authorship.The first dealt with tackling challenges associated with space-based gravitational wave data for massive black hole binaries (MBHBs). I used Bayesian inference techniques (Markov Chain Monte Carlo) to detect and characterize mock MBHBs from gravitational waves measured by LISA (Laser Interferometer Space Antenna). As a result, my advisor and I developed a data analysis tool that would typically take days to run for a single source to several hours with similar accuracy.The second was about applying and expanding this tool to gain insights into how multiple space-based gravitational wave detectors could work together to produce better results. TianQin and Taiji are two proposed detectors that would work alongside LISA. I modified the original code to handle a second detector and came back with two big findings: the uncertainties in nearly all source parameters were reduced, with sky location improving by a factor of ten thousand, and with two detectors we could safely use approximations that would avoid having to develop complex and time consuming data analysis tools.Aside from publishing research, I also frequently gave talks on my research and lead discussion with our research group.

In paradise, I played two roles: I was a scuba divemaster intern and I was a scientific diver intern.In the first role, I learned how to engage with customers and prepare them for a day diving by interacting with actual customers, safely plan and lead certified scuba divers underwater through coursework and practicing with fellow divemaster interns, handle any and all complications that could arise above and underwater by performing rescue scenarios and using these skills in actual, real life-threating currents; and how to assist dive instructors with teaching students by assisting students with experiences ranging from new to rescue divers. As a scientific diver intern, I learned how to identify species of fish, invertebrates, and genus of coral as to collect data during dozens of survey dives; collaborate with a team of divers to set up baited remote underwater video, collect and enter data from these videos, and map dive sites; become a steward of the ocean and collect garbage above and under the waves.
