My job role included, but was not limited to creating English Language Arts (ELA) content for students studying in grades K-12 in the US to extract practical learning outcomes. I also worked on curating the pre-existing content bank to ensure that the former material remains relevant to this day. I had to research literary content available in the public domain as well as author original content to enrich the content bank.

I actively conducted pre-primary, primary, as well as middle school classes. I got exposure to a technology-rich teaching environment, where right from the pre-primary classes, I taught the students to read using apps that were developed in-house. I introduced the alphabet via phonetics. These were then strung together to make words, which I taught according to varying levels of difficulty. I used various audio-visual equipment to further enhance their learning experience. I even put forward Mathematical concepts using visual-aid kits and then tested the students’ learnings via applications specially designed for this purpose. I introduced number and spatial concepts with the help of puzzles like Sudoku, Ken Ken, and Shikaku.I carried forward this notion of “learning can be fun” to the primary section, where the I never handed the students any textbooks and instead, encouraged them to read voraciously, with the help of diverse storybooks appropriate for their age, like Panchatantra, Charlotte’s Web, The Trumpet of the Swan, Fantastic Mr. Fox, Gulliver’s Travels. I discussed Mathematics using real-life problems and complex number puzzles. I made the application of basic operations like addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division enjoyable using apps like Magic Square and Multiplication Kakuro.In the secondary section, I interacted with students belonging to standards five, six, seven and eight, mainly focusing on English and Social Science. I emphasized on reading, with books like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, The Valley of Fear, A Fine Balance, Jurassic Park to mention a few. I discussed History with the aid of materials like Letters from Rifka, Number the Stars, The Century Trilogy and Empire of the Moghul (series). Screenplays of movies like Life is Beautiful helped me explain the trauma of the Second World War. I taught materials like Sapiens and Homo Deus to ensure that the students got an understanding of the world around us and how swiftly it is changing.
