Currently investigating board directorship opportunities, Karen Hogan is an expert in information technology (IT) governance, policy, investment management, acquisition and procurement, vendor sourcing and vendor management, and staff development. During her 35 year career, she has held numerous senior executive IT positions in the federal government, including Chief Information Officer.While serving as CIO of the Department of Commerce, she managed its $1.5 billion annual investment in IT, and as Deputy CIO led the development of the Department's policy and programs for cybersecurity, IT investment management, enterprise IT architecture, use of performance measures, and IT governance. Prior to that, she was CIO of the Census Bureau, dramatically scaling up the IT infrastructure in preparation for the first decennial census data collection using the internet, and was Deputy CIO at the Patent and Trademark Office where she oversaw operations of the U.S. government's largest civilian data center.She has been the strategic advisor on IT to the National Defense University, and is an adjunct faculty member at the Georgetown University School of Continuing Studies and the University of Maryland University College. She completed the certificate program for public company directors offered through the National Association of Corporate Directors and is an elected Trustee and President of the Sully Station II Community Association.Ms. Hogan graduated magna cum laude with a B.S. in Library Science and Elementary Education from Madison College (now James Madison University), and graduated with honors from the George Washington University with a M.S. in Information Systems.Specialties: executive management, IT governance, management of technology, IT capital planning and investment control, privacy and data protection, information security, data dissemination, project management, requirements analysis, and government IT procurement and acquisition.
