About Kate Heliotis
I am a structural engineer with a passion for advancing the future of our industry. I once stepped into a primary school with my high-vis shirt and steel capped boots, and walked past some girls (aged about 6 or 7). They gasped when they saw me and said "Look, she's a builder!" I know an engineer is not exactly a builder... but I changed a stereotype in the eyes of those students that day! This is what gives me purpose. Combined with my passion for solutions-based project work, I love contributing to the built environment and knowing that I've helped a Client achieve the best possible outcome for their design vision. My enthusiasm for the pursuit of meaningful impact translates into a message of self-belief, empowerment, and unseen possibility in the eyes of the youth I have worked with.In my most recent technical role, I completed design and analysis of a variety of structural systems including low to mid-rise concrete framing (3-7 storeys), wide span steel roof framing, and timber framing. My analysis software experience includes SpaceGass and RAM Concept, as well as Hyne timber design and connection design software, Limcon. I pride myself on swift learning of new software skills and am considerate of the design needs and personal preferences of senior project owners to ensure my work adds value and saves time.My project experience is diverse and includes a three-level child-care centre on a steep embankment, high-school performing arts and teaching centres, refurbishments of heritage structures, disabled persons residential care facilities, a steel-framed pedestrian and cyclist bridge, large deflection fabric design and anchorage, retaining walls, footing design, and residential reinforced blockwall framing. My work experience also included elements of civil engineering design, such as a stormwater detention system, hydrological modelling, and community consultation on a creek revival project.--------Kate completed a Bachelor of Engineering (Hons I) at the University of Queensland in 2016, and was named the Hawken Memorial Scholar (faculty) and Kenneth A. Thiess Prize (school) recipient for her graduating class.
Listed skills include Word, Excel, Outlook, Hospitality, and 20 others.
