• Manage a team of eight developers, located in different geographical regions, in a pseudo Agile/Scrum environment. Team members range from co-op students to Principal System Software developers.• Responsibilities of the team include: WLAN chipset bring up, OS driver maintenance, evaluation of new chipsets for future devices, performance improvements (i.e. throughput, CPU usage, battery life, etc.), WFA certification, RF certification (i.e. FCC cert), and manufacturing validation testing.• Complete employee year-end reviews, regular 1-on-1 meetings, goal setting, and compensation reviews.• Conduct interviews (technical and behavioural) for co-op, developer, and lead positions.• Lead weekly sync. calls with the three vendors currently being used to source WLAN chipsets. Chipsets used include: TI’s 128X family, Broadcom’s 43XX family, and Qualcomm’s WCN3660.• Perform triage of incoming bug reports. This includes doing first pass analysis, determining if a bug fix or a new feature is needed, estimating effort, and setting priority and target release.• Represent the WLAN team on meetings with project/program mgmt., senior mgmt., and neighbouring technologies (Bluetooth, NFC, Cellular, Networking, VPN, LBS, etc.).• Performed bring up of the WLAN sub-system for the next generation OS platform. Currently directing the architecture and feature design of the WLAN subsystem on this platform.
Wlan Software Developer
• Maintained, designed and debugged the WLAN subsystem for all BB10 devices (25 devices launched to date). • Led code reviews for WLAN service layer applications, WPA Supplicant, and OS drivers.• Debugged system issues including problems in the chipset firmware, system interface (SDIO/PCI intf., DMA, OS and IP stack interface), Physical Layer, MAC/Data Link Layer, and Networking Layer (protocols such as ARP, DHCP, DNS, TCP, UDP, etc.) using tools such as Wireshark, Traceroute, Ping, GDB, Valgrind, etc.• Supported WFA Certification efforts by updating the Sigma Sample DUT (i.e. WTE) for new test plans and debugging failures in existing test programs including 11a/b/g/n/ac, Wifi Direct, WPA2, PMF/MFP, WPS, Miracast, Voice-Personal, WMM, WMM-AC, and WMM-PS.• Designed the development process used by a 25-person team. This included creating the tools and rules to make it easier to checkout code from several repository control systems, post to code review systems and update the project management systems.• Designed new white box and black box unit tests for use by the testing teams.• Presented “lunch and learn” sessions for peers covering topics such a coding, debugging, and protocols.• Mentored co-op students and new employees to the team.• Sent to the World Series of Poker 2012 event in Las Vegas and the 2013 Grand Prix of Monaco to debug multimedia-streaming problems in BB10 and Playbook devices.

• Project Lead for Sangoma’s next gen SS7 library. Wrapped Trillium’s SS7 stack (OS abstraction, MTP2, MTP3, and ISUP) in a multi-threaded C API library that allowed it to be used by the FreeTDM signaling module of FrewSWITCH (open source telephony platform used to interconnect various protocols and medias). Brought the project to market and saw it implemented in systems handling more than 10,000 calls per hour.• Lead developer for hardware test bed. This involved developing and maintaining Bash scripts, Perl scripts, and multi-threaded C applications to unit test PCI/PCIe and USB telephony (T1, E1, PSTN) interface cards.• Responsible for developing and debugging patches for Linux and Windows kernel drivers. This involved dealing with new APIs as new kernels were released, debugging PCI/PCIe, DMA, and IRQ issues.
