As an undergraduate, I gained research experience with the Center for Prevention of Youth Behavior Problems. A nationally leading research facility within the University of Alabama that focuses on the prevention of youth violence and antisocial behavior. I worked for two semesters and a summer to conduct in-field interviews, clean files with other researchers, scan documents, and hand-enter data into excel as well as conducting daily bureaucratic tasks. In undergrad, I defended my research thesis studying the difference in female confidence within STEM fields versus confidence in male counterparts for my project in the Psychology Honors Research Program. I have spent time gaining hospital hours by shadowing an acting chief resident around the pathology unit of the University of South Alabama Medical Center, an optometrist with his own practice, and shadowed the Director of Outpatient Palliative and Supportive Care in the Supportive Care unit of Emory Hospital of Atlanta. From these experiences, I learned how to identify diseased flesh samples, conduct eye examinations, and listen to patient concerns. Lastly, I have gained leadership experience through my role as Vice President of Psi Chi: International Honor Society in Psychology and as Director of Operations for Active Minds, a college mental health advocacy group.
