Assistant Weapons Engineering Officer (Ordnance)
This role encompasses a wide range of responsibilities for the day to day maintenance of Weapon Engineering standards of the Tactical Weapon Systems in the submarines of the Faslane Flotilla. The role also provides assistance to visiting submarines of the Devonport flotilla and foreign navies.The primary purpose of the role is to contribute to the provision of operationally capable submarines by ensuring that defined standards of Tactical Weapons safety, quality, health & safety, and engineering practices relevant to Tactical Weapons System personnel and equipment, are maintained in the Faslane Flotilla.Secondary purposes for the role include undertaking Tactical Weapon Certification, co-ordinating the provision of Tactical Weapon System shore support and performing the role and responsibilities of a ship's manager for deployed Faslane Flotilla submarines.Primary Tasks:- processing of signals, correspondance and telephone calls concerning the flotilla and submarines.- processing, logging, distributing and responding to High Grade Messaging signals.- staffing papers and signals relating to the movement and handling of submarine weapons and pyrotechnics.- keeping technical state boards and computer network data files up to date.- provide assurance and monitor standards during tactical weapon outloads.- conduct Explosive Health Check visits on all platforms within the Faslane Flotilla to ensure explosive quality assurance on behalf of Navy Command.- scrutinise the submarine programme with regard to Tactcial Weapon Outload forecasts and ensure a practical programme to minimise conflict.Secondary Tasks:- Provide a continuous focal point for assistance and advice to Faslane Division submarines by way of an on-call mobile phone.- Carry out the duties of ship's manager as required for deployed Faslane Flotilla submarines.
Babcock Marine - Submarine Weapon Engineering Support
• Carried out maintenance, defect diagnosis and rectification upon equipment as directed by the Babcock civilian Team Leader.• Carried out work in accordance with Babcock Quality Policy, current procedures and documentation whilst working within current HSE policy.• Supervised cleanliness and security of the two section workshops.• Produced technical reports and liaised with external agencies and contractors in support of submarine work packages.• Ensured that the team were able to support and fulfil the timely completion of work packages.• Provided support to other departments within the Naval Base as required.• Carried out the roles and responsibilities of a Duty Planning Group Support Senior Rate including periods of standby during weekends to provide the best support to the customer.
