Kim Evans has extensive experience as a creative practitioner and leader in the cultural sector. She has a particular interest in new writing and social justice. As an arts consultant she supports the development of artists and cultural leaders and works with a wide range of clients on governance and Board development. She is a Trustee of Arvon, The Bush Theatre, the Forward Arts Foundation and the Hardman Trust and on the Steering Committee for Bay 20, a community space built in the wake of the Grenfell Fire. She was formerly Deputy Chair of the National Portrait Gallery and Chair of Clean Break, the theatre company working with women in prison and at risk in the community.Kim is experienced in working with artists and organisations whose work crosses boundaries - geographical, artistic, and disciplinary. She was a Trustee of the Heritage Lottery Fund and has experience of working in arts and heritage, arts and science, arts and health, and she has a strong interest and expertise in the arts and social justice.Kim was awarded an OBE in 2007 for her services to the arts. Her leadership roles include Executive Director of Arts at Arts Council England, where she was responsible for national art form policy; and Head of Music & Arts at the BBC. For much of her career she was a documentary filmmaker, producing and directing arts programmes for The South Bank Show, and then the BBC where she won a BAFTA for her film Angela Carter’s Curious Room.
