The 2013 Oceanic Festival of Table Tennis was the first annual table tennis festival held across Viti Levu, Fiji from June 17-22. It began in Nadi and spanned over 5 days including stops in Ba, Lautoka, Nadi, and Sigatoka, with the final day in Suva. The 2013 OFTT consisted of training camps, private coaching lessons, seminars, exhibitions, special guests, competitions, games, prizes, live music, food and live entertainment. This annual festival has the full support of the ITTF and ITTF Oceania. With an aggressive and all out attack styled game, Kim consistently ranked in the top 12 US women for several years during the eighties and early nineties. She also won several gold medals at U.S. Olympic Festivals from 1982-1991. Kim holds numerous state and national titles, and still holds the record for the fastest reflexes ever recorded at any U.S. Olympic Festival by any athlete in any sport featured on ESPN! In 1992 Kim was forced to retire after sustaining a career ending shattered right arm. She tried to play again in 2010 and to her own amazement she was able to play very well. She was quickly offered a weekly hosting position at SPiN (co-owned by Susan Sarandon) and started training at the Gilbert Table Tennis Center to hone her skills again. Khalid alBalooshi has driven Pro Mod cars in NHRA and American Drag Racing League with 158 career wins prior to moving up to the Al-Anibi Top Fuel Team in late 2011. Since then he has been struggling with his reactions times at the start of each race, so they have turned to me for help after reading online that I set the Olympic record for fastest reflexes. I met with Khalid and his personal trainer (Craig Dunham) late last night at the Gilbert Table Tennis Center to give him a customized lesson to see if I could help. I put Khalid through a barrage of difficult drills including multi-ball and reaction tests for 45 minutes. He did not have a dry spot on him, but at the end of the lesson we calculated and compared his reaction times from the beginning to the end of his lesson, his reaction time score improved by 65.3% within 45 minutes of playing table tennis! They have hired me to coach because they see the value that my sport has for their sport. Khalid is now ranked in the the 10 in the world after winning 3 races!
