Kim is an experienced teacher, school leader and special education advisor who has spent over 30 years supporting students with disability, their families and teachers. Kim’s current position as National Coordinator for Diverse Communities Programs at Positive Partnerships, involves her in collaborating with multicultural groups, disability organisations and families with multicultural and multi faith backgrounds to supportunderstanding of the diverse learning needs of young people on the autism spectrum. Autism may be understood differently amongst different cultural groups and these cross-cultural differences may become a barrier for helping children and their families to access appropriate diagnosis and support.When a child is developing differently or is diagnosed with a disability, the challenges faced by families in understanding the needs of their child and how to help them can be overwhelming. Kim is dedicated to finding innovative ways to support families from multicultural communities to feel connected, supported and engaged in their child’s learning and school experiences. Kim is highly skilled in working collaboratively and taking the time to listen and respond to community needs and priorities. She values consulting with community and seeking feedback to ensure translations of resources and presentations use clear community language and that are culturally appropriate. Kim is an experienced facilitator of both face to face and online parent workshops and professional learning sessions. Kim’s vast experience in schools and working with families and teachers has equipped her with both knowledge of evidence based supports and the perspective of both families and school staff that make her an asset to community and school programs.
