One of the key areas of interest in my lab is how proteins function and how that function translates to health. We are particularly interested in understanding the underlying mechanisms of gut-liver-brain crosstalk, contributing to healthy ageing. Research in the group is focused on membrane proteins, transporters, transcription factors, nuclear hormone receptors, metabolic proteins and enzymes. The protein targets of interest are pharmaceutical targets involved in age-related diseases; neurodegenerative, liver diseases, diabetes and obesity. Among the many bioanalytical tools at our disposal, we primarily use x-ray crystallography and computational methods for structure-based and computer-aided drug discovery, together with in vitro and in vivo models to unravel complex signalling mechanisms in response to drug treatments.Specialties: Protein Crystallography and Computational Biology
