The Aspirnaut Program is an internship program that allows high school students to immerse themselves in hands-on research inside a laboratory setting. Interns are exposed to current scientific problems and guided through experiments that will eventually help solve and answer scientific questions. Aspirnaut Interns spend six weeks on U-M's Ann Arbor campus working with a team of researchers in the life science institute. Interns are also prepared for college by meeting with mentors, preparing for standardized tests, and receiving college advising.

The Genetic Immersion Program is a six-week research immersive internship at the Department of Human Genetics laboratory, specifically for high school participants. This program provides an immersive academic research experience by mentoring students in acquiring basic laboratory skills, techniques, and fundamental knowledge of genetics. It also helps students explore the definition of what it means to be a true scientist.
