I have worked in the medical field for over 26 years, 21 of that has been as a registered nurse with experience in med/surg, orthopedics, home health, neurology, and research. I have 7 years’ experience coordinating industry sponsored multiple sclerosis (MS) trials and assisting with several investigator initiated projects. I have served as principal investigator of a research study in collaboration with the hospital I am employed and with the University of Illinois College of Medicine Peoria (UICOM-P). As a result of this project I was able to be a major contributor in the development of a MS patient registry that integrated with the medical center's electronic health record (EHR). My work activities as an industry research coordinator included every study activity involved in the clinical trial process from site selection, study start-up, and study closure. These duties consisted of budget negotiation, maintenance of regulatory documents including institutional review board (IRB) work, recruiting and consenting subjects, maintenance of source documents, dispensing and administering investigational product, and collaborating with the research team (principal investigators, sub-investigators, back-up coordinators, CRO staff, and industry sponsors). In February 2016 I joined the talented team at Jump Simulation & Education Center, a part OSF Innovation and a collaboration with UICOM-P, as their research nurse coordinator. The Jump Research Department is responsible for conducting educational, translational, and applied research projects. Transforming healthcare with new innovations is the goal of Jump and I am blessed to continue my efforts with the MS Flowsheet Database in my new role. During my time at Jump Simulation, I have assisted on many educational studies involving in situ simulation, virtual reality, complex chart reviews, telehealth technologies, and traditional simulation. I also co-facilitate Jump's Introduction to Simulation and Difficult Debriefing Courses, acting in a faculty role. In August 2019 I enrolled in the MSN Educator Program at SFMC CON. This challenging, yet rewarding educational journey has been an exciting adventure. I look forward to future opportunities.
