Kim is a hard worker who strives to see everyone around her succeed. Kim has made a positive impact on learners in secondary science education for 15 years. She has fostered a positive learning environment for students in Chemistry, Biology, Science 8, Middle School Science, STEM, Math, and Leadership. Knowledge of Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), Culturally Responsive, and Restorative Practices was the foundation at implementing and developing curriculum to reach students from many backgrounds and learning styles. She has also mentored new teachers and facilitated student teachers to help support and develop adults to be influential educators as well. Kim's favorite part of her job is getting students connected to nature, opportunities for students to see how learning can lead to future employment within local industries, and develop the mindset of how to think critically to apply skills as a life-long learner. Kim has built many strong partnerships with local agencies to bring the community into the classroom such as Starry Hill Observatory, Tacoma Power, Mt. Rainier National Park Educators, Pierce County Environmental Education Team, Northwest Trek, and Nisqually River Education Program. Watching students thrive in these settings with confidence brings a new energy with a big impact into student's lives. Throughout the years of being in the same community, the joy of learning about past student's life and accomplishments is the biggest gift an educator could ever ask for.It is time for Kim to grow in her passion career as an informal educator to develop programs for students and adults of all ages. She makes learning fun, but with meaning to know the "Why" behind understanding the world around us. Kim is currently in a Masters of Science program with Miami University in partnership with Woodland Park Zoo to further her understanding of how she can engage her community in conservation. Within the program, she is working collaboratively with individuals locally, nationally, and later globally in how we can address issues to implement the best programs to benefit everyone as a whole.
