About Kimberly Heckman
I am the Manager for IT Learning & Development at Penn State University. This unit is responsible for the training needs for the university, and I collaborate with other units to strategize and execute training plans for enterprise-wide technology tools. Additionally, I design, develop, and deliver a variety of resources including learning paths and live training sessions on several technology tools including Canvas, Outlook, Teams, Excel, Wordpress Sites, and Box. I work with students, faculty, and staff to learn and incorporate various technology tools into their teaching and learning experiences. This focus has amplified through the transition to remote teaching and learning. I have presented several workshops highlighting hands-on online learning opportunities, engaging students remotely, and assessment strategies for remote and blended learning platforms.I am also an experienced chemistry and physics instructor at both the high school and undergraduate levels. After earning my Master's degree in Education, I developed a keen interest in instructional strategies and technology integration in education. As I pursue these interests in the higher education arena, I continue to learn more about coaching, metacognitive learning strategies, and project management. I am fortunate to have opportunities to further develop these skills while remaining connected to my passion for education and science.

I joined IT Learning and Development as a member of the Canvas Training Team. I have since transitioned my responsibilities to include a variety of projects such as Box, Sites, and Office 365. I design, create, and deliver resources including learning paths, visual aids, videos, and live training sessions to faculty, instructional designers, staff and students. Online training sessions are delivered via Zoom as well as some traditional face-to-face venues. Training sessions occur across University Park as well as all Commonwealth campuses.
