As a resident of the country, I was able to use my network to forge relationships and introduce our mission to government officials, NGO partners, and donors. In the role of Reproductive Health Consultant, I was responsible for evaluating HIV/Family Planning initiatives through surprise visits of programs, meetings with partners, stakeholders and internal departments of the organization to determine how the program could be strengthened both internally and externally. This included development of a scope of work for continuation of the initiative.

As a Health Extentionist, I worked collaboratively to build the capacity of government and community based organizations through trainings on HIV prevention, transmission, voluntary testing, counseling, and confidentiality. In addition, I evaluated quality of voluntary testing centers according to national and international norms and managed medicine stocks. My work included obtaining grant funding to support health initiatives in the communities that both served to educate the community and train trainers. I personally led the trainings for trainers. Trainings included education on reproductive health, nutrition, maternal and child health, and hygiene to reach a catchment area of ~21,000 people.Due to instability in Guinea, for a period of time I lived in Mali where my work focused on education truck drivers on HIV/AIDS transmission and prevention, encouraging HIV testing. This included translation pre and post counseling sessions from French for English speakers being tested for HIV and counseling case specific HIV+ persons through the process of being tested, receiving medication, testing their children and informing their partners.
