I have been working as a research assistant with Dr. John Manis investigating mouse models of hyper-IgE syndrome (HIES). In this position I develop assays and experiments to collect scientific data. I have troubleshot experiment protocols to more efficiently generate large volumes of raw data. I'm in charge of maintaining an extensive mouse colony of several different strains of mice and developed and streamlined a record-keeping system for the colony. I analyze and process scientific findings using Excel and other scientific and statistical analytical software such as Prism and FlowJo and was able to characterize the phenotype of our experimental mice through my experiments and data analysis. In addition, I manage the day-to-day operations of the lab including training new lab members, maintaining lab inventory and serving as the primary contact person for outside vendors.

As a Bacteriologist in the HIV lab at the Department of Health, I was responsible for sample preparation and carrying out diagnostic assays used for the detection of HIV and hepatitis while following strict SOPs and CDC and FDA-mandated regulations in a biosafety level 2 (BSL 2) laboratory. Our lab was responsible for processing the majority of HIV and hepatitis tests in the state. I also communicated with epidemiologists and health center counselors regarding confidential test results and data.

As an undergrad research assistant in Professor John Caradonna’s lab I assisted graduate student researchers with projects investigating protein mutations which cause the genetic disorder phenylketonuria (PKU). In this position I:• Generated mutant DNA plasmids through site-directed mutagenesis • Performed cell growth and protein purification procedures• Performed enzyme kinetics assays on purified protein samples

As an office assistant in the Transfer Admissions office at Boston University I was responsible for entry and maintenance of classified grades and information in database records. I worked with prospective students’ confidential application materials, answered emails and coordinated mass mailings to students. As the senior-most assistant in the department I was also in charge of training new student employees in the use of University records databases.
