I received a degree with sociology and a minor in social work from Calvin College in 2009. I am a highly motivated team player with a strong work ethic, with a passion for excellence, and a love of learning. I enjoy interacting with many different types people; I am skilled listener and conflict resolver, with the ability to work as a leader or team member.Helping people has always been one of my passions. I began volunteering with non-profits in high school so I have experience with many different areas of non-profit work. I currently work for a non-profit-the YMCA. Some of my favorite places I volunteered at were the Griffins Youth Foundation where I taught hockey to children with disabilities and the Grand Rapids Community Foundation's Youth Grand Committee where I helped assess grants to award to area non-profits with awesome youth programing. I remained volunteering throughout college and after graduation. I currently work for the YMCA. I started working at the Y in 2012. I started as a sub and have worked my way up to lead teacher. I am currently teaching one year olds through intentional play and planned activities. In addition to teaching I also run a local music blog focusing on the music scene in Kansas City. I am the primary photographer and writer for the blog. Specialties: I am a compassionate listener. I have taken a class on solutions based counseling. I've had training through the Grand Rapids Dispute Resolution Center as a mediator. I also went through anti-racism/classism/sexism/abelism/queerphobia training.I am excellent at building relationships with the families I teach. Teaching one year olds has given me the skill of multitasking. I am also a skilled photographer. My focus has been on concert photography, but I do some portrait photography as well.
