As an intern at Juniper Village at Brookline, I assisted the Nursing Home Administrator in her day-to-day work while learning the capabilities necessary to manage a skilled nursing facility. In addition to this, I also: -Created a draft of Juniper's Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement plan, a document mandated by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. This comprehensive, data-driven document was made to ensure that quality care was being delivered to the residents. This involved assuring that care was meeting and exceeding standards and then, determining what could be done to further improve outcomes. This project also entailed me assisting in performing a gap analysis to determine what direction Juniper needed to head in to meet quality and performance improvement initiatives.-Contributed to Juniper’s Facility Assessment, a document sent to the Pennsylvania Department of Health which evaluated staff competency, the needs of the resident population, and ensuring that Juniper Village was meeting those needs-Became familiar with federal and state regulations regarding skilled nursing care-Analyzed resident and staff trends to determine the root cause of an infection outbreak-Completed 340 hours rotating through every department; shadowing and assisting other health care professionals including the Business Office Manager, Director of Nursing, and Social Services Department
