My team and I have built an executive and internal communications program within ThousandEyes from the ground up. We keep direct and extended ThousandEyes employees informed, engaged and motivated through multiple communications channels, including SharePoint, Webex/Slack, all hands meetings, newsletter, etc. We co-lead the planning and implementation of ThousandEyes' annual kickoff meeting. We support our senior leadership team by drafting correspondence, presentations and social media posts. We provide consultation on various projects, like ThousandEyes' annual Hack Day and new initiatives throughout the organization. Most importantly, we help promote ThousandEyes' narrative internally within ThousandEyes and Cisco as well as externally to the market and our customers and partners.

As a communications advisor, I developed executive thought leadership platforms and communications strategies, aligning them to business and strategic priorities. In addition, I produced internal and external communications for the SVPs, such as executive correspondence, all hands meetings, video recordings, social media and presentations/speeches.

If I could choose one word to describe this position, it would be "growth." This position enabled me to become a stronger communicator by opening doors to new experiences and sharpening existing skill sets. As part of the communications team behind SAS' Chief Sales Officer, I produced external and internal communications deliverables that established our CSO as a thought leader and informed, recognized and motivated SAS' global sales organization. These deliverables ranged from social media content and scripts to presentations and executive correspondence.One of my favorite responsibilities was managing SAS' sales recognition programs. In 2015, I launched the first global sales incentive trip program and in 2017, I spearheaded a recognition program that honors sales support staff. Employee engagement is a passion of mine, and I enjoyed celebrating and motivating the company's top sales performers.

During this time, UNC's Finance Division was preparing to transition from its legacy financial system to PeopleSoft, one of the largest projects in the department's history. I was brought in as a contractor to assist the department with addressing and updating all financial policies, procedures, forms and related documentation prior to the switch. In addition, I developed internal communications strategies and supporting communications to increase awareness and promote acceptance of PeopleSoft project within the Finance Division.

This was my first introduction to SAS' Executive Communications team. I was brought on as a contractor to help compose internal and external communications, such as articles, talking points, presentations and scripts, for the vice president of sales for Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific.

Internal communications, event planning, project management and sales support are a few of my favorite things. This position covered them all. I managed multiple communications-related projects for this national retailer, ensuring store employees had the information they needed to do their jobs effectively. For one project, I oversaw the revision of more than 1,500 policies and procedures. You could say I have experience with policy writing. Our team also often served as communications consultants for other departments' projects, focusing on message consistency, process improvement and change management. My biggest responsibility was overseeing all aspects of the annual company meeting and sales conference, which included logistics, meeting content and presentations, budget and contract negotiations for the three-day event. I also managed the logistics and presentation content for the company's district manager and regional sales meetings, including the first off-site, out-of-state district manager meeting.

My attention to detail was key to this position. I oversaw merchandise ordering and pricing for three retail showrooms, including custom orders for the company’s interior designers. I was also responsible for maintaining inventory and ensuring the annual inventory count was accurate.

This job was my first venture in supporting sales teams – and I was hooked. When I started this position, request for proposal (RFP) responses moved from the local level to the corporate office. In addition to working with sales teams across the country to write responses to RFPs, it was my job to develop and compose standards for the new Marketing Proposal Department. The department would eventually own all RFP responses companywide and grow to a team of five.

Although my tenure was short, this job sparked my passion for employee engagement and corporate communications. I enjoyed writing the monthly employee newsletter and executing the monthly company-wide employee recognition program. Communicating need-to-know information and internally recognizing hardworking staff gave me a sense of accomplishment. I was also able to put those newly acquired communications skills to use and draft deliverables such as media releases and marketing bulletins for the bank’s marketing and business development teams.
